Who I Am

I am a performing artist and educator with a passion for bringing art to all communities. I am dedicated to creating safe, equitable spaces and uplifting original, nonprofit theatre making.

My Story

My name is Alexa, originally hailing from Williston, Vermont, now living in NYC as an educator and artist. As a child in Vermont, I found my love for theatre and performing arts through school plays, band, and chorus. In high school, I expanded my experiences to community organizations and saw the value that non-profit theaters have on children’s lives.

I went on to pursue a BFA in Acting at SUNY Fredonia, and there I discovered my affinity for teaching and directing through my work as a TA for freshman acting classes and directing my first full production, Ordinary Days. I loved being able to work with others on how to enhance their craft and introduce them to the exciting world of theatre.

Post graduation, I returned to Vermont and was fortunate enough to work with two incredible organizations, both performing and teaching. I returned to Very Merry Theatre—an organization that I loved participating in as a young teen—as a teaching artist to choreograph, direct, and assist with their productions. Throughout this year, I was also working with Lost Nation Theatre, a local professional theatre company in Montpelier, VT. While working with these organizations, I was finding my true passion for working with young people and fostering a new generation of theatre makers. This came from a realization that I find much more value in small community-led organizations as opposed to the commercialization of the arts.

In May 2025, I graduate with an M.S. Ed in Educational Theatre from the City College of New York. This experience has only enhanced my passion for working in this field and uplifting the work of non-profit arts organizations and unique theatre making. While pursuing my degree, I was accepted into the NYC Alliance Against Sexual Violence Collegiate Changemakers Fellowship. This fellowship brought together a group of college students who are advocates for sexual violence prevention work and helped to explore how to make that advocacy work stronger. As a part of this fellowship, I created a twenty page pamphlet detailing the connections between violence prevention work and the performing arts and steps to prevent violence in the theatre space. You can read that here

I am passionate about advocacy and social justice in my work. I am committed to culturally responsive teaching and consent-based practices in my classrooms and rehearsal spaces. I aim to work with people who share those values and I am excited to keep continuing on this path!
